Perez Cruz, Antiyal, Mojaito and Clos Quebrada De Macul

The natural conditions of the high Maipo for the production of red wines, led Perez Cruz to choose the best varieties for its terroir .The principal aim of Viña Perez Cruz is to produce fine wines, with a proper identity that expressed all the qualities of the Maipo Alto, the cradle of the Chilean premium wines. At the most suitable varieties were chosen. At the same time the winery building was constructed with a high technology standard but design to harmonize with the natural landscape.

The architect José Cruz Ovalle created a laminated wood building with low stone walls around the base. It measures 6000 square meters and has natural light. The wooden roof, supported on curved pillars of the same material, was designed to allow thermal isolation and free air flow circulation, both ideal for fine wine making.Then we will continue to boutique winery Viña Antiyal the first organic wine in Chile, made by Alvaro Espinoza( Antiyal,means in Mapudungun,language from the Mapuche culture,” Sun of the Sun”),in only one hectare they produce 4300 bottles. The winery, like the Mapuches, they have a tremendous respect for the soil and the environment. We will do a private wine tasting in their cellar. We will continue to our next stop at “Mojaito “ for a special lunch, their service is characterized by their family atmosphere and natural cooking. All the products are grown in their organic gardens and are handcrafted by their chefs.Then our last premium boutique winery will be Clos Quebrada De Macul a single hillside family owned vineyard planted to cabernet sauvignon back in 1970 when it was unheard of in Chile to plant on more difficult-to-farm, lower-yielding hillside sites. The vines planted there are 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, and a 20% blend of Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc.In the past the harvest had been sold to top wineries from across the country, becoming the most expensive fruit in the market. This has motived the owners, Isabelle and Ricardo Peña, to join forces with the winemaker Ignacio Recabarren, and an US investor to begin their own winery. Since its debuted in 1996 DomusAurea has occupied a leading role in Chile’s recent wine history(” So rich and so intensely extracted, one sip of this young wine soaks up every last bit of moisture in the mouth only to replace it by lasting, sweet, plummy flavor” Wines & Spirits – Top 10 Chilean Reds “), appealing to site-specificity, low yields and non-interventionist winemaking. In 2003 Patrick Valette and Jean Pascal Lacaze joined DomusAurea as consultant and resident winemaker, respectively.Quebrada de Macúl is a sheer terroir demonstration and a family: the same blood expresses strength through Alba, invites to the voluptuous elegance of Stella, and finally leads to the impetuous greatness of Domus. Three different identities, fruits of a same education, expressing very own personalities and sharing the same creed: total loyalty to a so unique essence through a perpetual pursuit of balance and authenticity. We will visit the vines and the cellar with the production facilities besides we will do a Barrel tasting of the ultra premium wine Domus Aurea.
